Beach to Brewery

Karl Strauss Beach To Brewery celebrates 21 years of Karl and benefits Surfrider Foundation, again!!
The 2010 Karl Strauss Beach to Brewery celebrates 21 years of fine beer crafting in action. The annual event is also an important fundraiser and opportunity for awareness for the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. This years event marks the 7th year of the event by Karl Strauss and another year the event will be a fundraising bash for Surfrider.

Last years event was a huge success with bands Tape n’ Tapes, Get Back Loretta, Delta Spirit and Stranger.
I attended last years event and took photos you see here; I truly enjoyed a passionate performance by Get Back Loretta. To me this band stole the day. Stranger had a unique brand of good time music meant for events like this. Stranger infused the crowd and really got things flowing.

I asked Bill Hicks the Chapter Coordinator for the San Diego Chapter of Surfrider Foundation a few questions about Beach to Brewery;

Lou Niles of RE:Cal Mag -  How has the event has helped Surfrider?
Bill Hicks of Surfrider San Diego- it's (beach to brewery) brought in over $75k for our local programs and campaigns while helping to raise awareness about important coastal issues.

Lou - how many years have you been involved?
Bill - this will be the sixth for Surfrider and five for me personally.

Lou - What have been a couple of your favorite bands?
Bill - Ozomatli was #1 for sure and really looking forward to Silent Comedy this year.

Lou - What are the key focuses for Surfrider San Diego this year?
Bill – “Know Your H2O” program, that deals with water supply issues that are affecting our coasts. Also,
“Rise Above Plastics!”, campaign aimed at eliminating single-use plastics and their impacts on the marine environment; and
“No BS campaign” - No Border Sewage campaign aimed at eliminating beach closures in southern SD County due to pollution from the Tijuana River

Lou - What is the best way someone can help?
Bill - 1) buy a ticket to Beach To Brewery packaged with a Surfrider membership

2) think globally and act locally to spread the word about coastal conservation
3) get involved with your local Surfrider Chapter:
