The Glue Network, TOMS Shoes, Evocal, Flexfit and Jedidiah live art installation collaboration that was assembled over three days at ASR (Action Sports Retailers) Trade Expo moves to Swiv tackle Gallery to be auctioned and create more awareness. The Object of the Art installation is to inspire people to “GIVE LOVE BACK!” The campaign is to benefit FRIENDS OF TOMS (a registered 501c3 non-profit), and help to raise awareness for those around the world who have a dire need for shoes.

For every pair purchased, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need.
One for One.




Trade-show attendees took part in this live art installation by using their footprints to create the mural backdrop. Twelve different artists then transformed the backdrop panels into a creative representation to shed light on the fact that 40% of the world do not have shoes. In an effort to “GIVE LOVE BACK”, each artist painted a 4’ X 8’ panel.


Each of the completed twelve paintings were put up for silent auction late September at Swiv Tackle Circus Gallery: 530 South Coast HWY, Oceanside, CA 92054.


The proceeds from the silent auction will go to FRIENDS OF TOMS in support of their efforts to get shoes to kids in need.


Swiv Tackle is part of the hip art, surf, skate and cause focused undercurrent of Oceanside. Oceanside has such a diverse community shops, galleries, eateries and even music.


Swiv Tackle is on the cutting edge for sure and being just a couple doors south of the amazing Hill St. Café complex doesn’t hurt the scene it is helping to develop.





I’ll write more later about the thriving Hill St complex but it holds the Organic and Healthy HILL ST. CAFÉ, the amazing hang out and sushi place The Fish Joint, as well as The Pod Room, a cooler than cool surf shop that also houses a hair salon called where you can get your mane coiffed by surf legends daughters and the like.

Anyways back to the event;
The pieces were beautiful and dramatic I had some favorites from Derek Leitch and Michele Leslie. I have always loved and been captured by the work of Kelli Murray (see her work on the Will Tant board at the Surf Gallery event. Kelli delivered a wonderful creation for this fundraiser and continues to contribute to making a difference whenever she can.

I was moved by the depth of passion and work put into the paintings and walked back and forth looking through them all then going back over them taking in new angles and soaking up the textures and rich colours.

I’ve always thought it amazing how most benefits are supported by artists be it musicians or painters, creators of some kind. In the surf community you’ll also find photographers and shapers contributing as well to the causes.

These are the people you usually find needing a bit of help themselves, the starving artists as they say and they are constantly giving even though they may have very little themselves.
