Active stores are a boutique style board shop that has grown to over 30 stores in southern California. They stock some of your major brands but you’ll find a wide range of edgy and arty cool surf, skate and street brands such as INSIGHT, RVCA, Stussy, The Hundreds, Rogue Status and pricey stuff like Frankie B denim and limited editions in footwear, eyewear and T’s.

One of their latest stores opened in the heart of Westwood Village just steps away from the UCLA campus.

To celebrate what could be better than to grab some friends from RVCA and Red Bull, a handful of artists, some bands and good DJ’s and make the party an event to raise money and awareness for a good cause.

TOMS Shoes was the organization of focus. 10’s of thousands of children are affected by disease they contract through their feet because they don’t have shoes. TOMS Shoes mission is to make a
difference in this serious problem. For every pair of shoes TOMS sells a pair is given to a child in need. Over 60,000 pairs so far in Argentina and South Africa. TOMS plans to give away 200,000 pairs in 2008.

Then event drew hundreds and hundreds over the course of the day into the night. I missed the band during the day, both Tavis and Goodbye Elliot played and I heard they were great.

I showed up for the evening segment and caught RVCA artists custom painting one of a kind designs on TOMS Shoes for people. The amazing artists included REVOK, RETNA, EWOK and DMOTE. To add to the vibe plenty of free Red Bull was available and excellent sounds from both DJ & VJ MATTER and Phi Phenomenon.
To cap off the night the artists gathered to lay their stylings on a large canvas of TOMS Shoes in the shape of the GIVE.

The GIVE mural piece will then move from Active Store to store as a moving art installation piece. At the end of its travels, the mural will be broken down and each pair of shoes will be auctioned off and the funds will go toward our Non-Profit, Friends of TOMS.

All in all a great group of people and companies coming together to introduce themselves to the community while also introducing the community to a great cause.
