A Story of Quality and Meaning Flavored with Cinematic Soul

Sliding Liberia a film by Britton Caillouette and Nicholai Lidow

This is exactly the kind of non-surf, surf film I love to spend my evening watching. I went to the warm confines of the historic La Paloma theatre for this event; wrapped into everything was the commotion and excitement of it being a Big Red Productions and of course being Big Red they had chosen a non-profit to help that night on top of everything. Titled a story of War, Peace and Surfing,

The story is excellent and the filming, being Homcy, is a stellar cinematic cruise through days in this unique place.

How often do Surf Films bring awareness and light to issues and problems in our world? We could use more for sure and dang there aren’t many bringing light to issues in our back yard but that’s for another story. I’m not the only fan as in 2008 the film brought in the Audience Grand Prize at the Alpinist Film Festival, Audience award for Best Documentary at the San Francisco Indie Film Festival and was the Winner of the emerging filmmaker award at X-Dance. Also of note is the soundtrack by Todd Hannigan and Jesse Siebenberg.
I have to tip my hat to the effort and determination to bring this story to the screen. I will also often give props to whomever financially backed the film as you’ll come to read in my reviews. Film makers need backing and Good Filmmakers should continue to get it so take note of who is backing the good one’s.
This film is incredible in all categories and I hope to see more like this and more work from this team.
