On my recent trip up the California coast for visits to Santa Cruz and Ventura I ran into Tiffany Campbell while interviewing Ashley Lloyd. Tiffany was gathering footage of Ashley for her forthcoming film “Dear & Yonder”. She tells me it’s about women from all over who inspire through their connection to the sea. Women surfers featured in the film include Ashley Lloyd, Kassia Meador, Sally Fitzgibbons, Sofia Mulanovich, CoCo Ho and a whole host of amazing gals who slide and shred.
Keep checking back with us as I am sure we’ll post a review as soon as there is a final cut available. Tiffany was shooting Ashley at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz trying to get some added footage of Ashley riding this certain board. I was able to ask Tiffany a few questions to keep us while we patiently await her works release.
Tell me about the film a little? Is there a title?
Dear & Yonder is the title. Check out dearandyonder.com for more about the film.
What significance does the board have in the film?
We chose Ashley Lloyd as a subject of the movie because she's an amazing surfer and a surfboard shaper. There aren't too many ladies shaping surfboards, even though it's an integral part of surfing, and we thought it was important to feature that. Also our intention with the movie is to have an environmental message and Ashley has been seeking out materials for her boards that leave less of an impact on the earth, such as Biofoam blanks. Finally, Ashley surfs the board of her own creation beautifully in the film, which is a testament to how well it works and serves as an inspiration to other women to either try their hand at shaping or seek out someone like Ashley for their next board.
Who are some of the surfers in the film?
Silvana Lima, Lee Ann Curren, Stephanie Gilmore, Prue Jeffries, Liz Clark and others as well as skaters Amy Caron, Vanessa Torres and Elizabeth Nitu.
What are some of the locations of the film?
Australia, Indonesia, Tahiti, Tuamotus Islands, Morocco, Mexico, California
When do you think the film may be coming out?
The film tours in Europe April-August, Japan May-June and USA July-Aug
Who is supporting your work on the film?
Roxy is our main supporter in the project and we have a couple of Magazine sponsors: "Foam" and "Surfing Magazine." Not to mention an awesome community of people that include artists, designers, cinematographers, photographers and generally helpful people.

Thanks to Tiffany for the words while filming and we look forward to the finished film on the big screen.
