OCEANSIDE, CALIF. — FUEL TV presents The 2nd Annual California Surf Festival on November 19-22, Oceanside, Calif. The Festival, produced as a benefit by the California Surf Museum (CSM) in Oceanside, includes exciting and groundbreaking new surf films with many of the filmmakers in attendance. Film premieres, music concerts, VIP receptions, after party events, meet and greet with filmmakers, book signings, and special art and history exhibitions are all part of the CSM festival.
The centerpiece of this year’s festival is a retrospective honoring “50 Years of Surfer Magazine: The Making of an Icon” Saturday, Nov. 21. All past publishers and editors of the magazine are being invited and tributes by the surf industry are being planned. Surfer Magazine is the longest running and most significant publication in its field.
Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro will be in concert on Friday, Nov. 20. Hailed as the “Eddie Van Halen of Ukes,” Jake played to a sold-out audience this past April in a benefit for CSM. Jake’s latest music serves as the soundtrack to Dana Brown’s new film HighWater, documenting life on the North Shore during the prestigious Triple Crown of Surfing. HighWater will screen at the festival as well.
An exciting new component this year is the “Hot Grom Shorts Contest.” Kids 19 years and under are invited to submit a five minute surf film to compete during the festival. Special prizes will be awarded to the talented young filmmakers, as well as showing on the big screen for friends and family to enjoy.
World champion surfer Australian Nat Young, will give a presentation and have a book signing on Thursday, Nov 19. Renowned lens man Clark Little, whose photographs of Hawaii’s North Shore have astonished surfers and non-surfers alike, presents a photo exhibit and book signing hosted by CSM. Other films include “STIL FILTHY”, “THE DRIFTER”, “BS!”, “SHAPED”, a Sneak Preview of Kelly Slater’s forthcoming IMAX film and more films and events to be announced.
Ticket prices for the Festival are $10-$75; $8-$55 for CSM members. An All Access Pass to the Festival will allow entrance to all events, all film screenings and both VIP receptions for only $225; CSM members pay only $150. The California Surf Festival will take place in downtown Oceanside at the Grace Theater (Grace Chapel), 102 N. Freeman Street, the Sunshine Brooks Theatre, 217 N. Coast Highway, and the California Surf Museum, 312 Pier View Way.
