I love Drive Thru’s, Don’t you just want to be there? It’s a travelers dream come true. Pile in a van, plane, boat, RV with some whacky guys who happen to be surf legends, or legends to be, then go off in search of great waves. Hey, even go off in search of ridiculous things to do.

I caught on late in the Drive Thru series, FUEL TV turned me on to my first Drive Thru’s,
South Africa and Jamaica. A chance to watch and review the New Zealand Drive Thru had me hunkered down on the couch with popcorn and hot chocolate, (in honor of the frosty climes of N Zed), to get my Drive Thru on.

DT NZ doesn’t fail to deliver what you expect from the series.

You’d think it would become boring and predictable because it’s really the same scenarios over and over but the small changes in the surfing crew along for the ride and adventure of a new geography just keeps the series going. What will happen? What will the waves be like? Who farts on who and who loses their gear? A big props has to be dropped to the DT team for continuing to deliver quality in producing, shooting and editing a great film every time I’ve seen it.

Let me tell all you Drive Thru lovers be on alert for the BOX SET, Yes it’s true!! Be it Santa, Valentines Day, your birthday event President’s day make some excuse to have someone get you the complete collection to date released by Koastal Media and available at your finer retailer or eTailers everywhere.

Anyways, back to New Zealand. This trip certainly isn’t for the easily carsick. The terrain is amazing but curves are the order of the day. The smallest RV’s I’ve ever seen lead me to thoughts of carsick nightmares. My favorite surf session had to be the California style beach break at Gisborne where Donovan put his lavender New Toy to good use. It’s the perfect board for that kind of beach break and Donovan shows how it’s done. Next favorite would have to be the deep epic brown barrels of Greymouth. This set up gave all the surfers who braved it a run for their cardio best. You’ll findthe honest assessments in the Extra DVD.

As always the fun moment has me rolling, I remember the Ostrich races in South Africa being one of my favorite things I’d ever seen a group of pro surfers do. For New Zealand, I’m not sure how they found the spot but it seemed like a lifetimes worth of fun was had in one day with boogie boards and a roadside stream.

An excellent assortment of groovy new tunes to get turned on to fill the airwaves of the film; chase up the Lemurs, Cut City, Les Savvy Fav for your listening pleasure.

So, all in all a good movie and of course you can wait for it to come out on FUEL TV but the special double disc offers a super cool 16mm piece that gives added interview and commentary as well as a different look at the raw scenes and footage. It’s a full 43 minutes extra to be exact and well worth it.
